How it all started
​
The Liquorice Singers are Pontefracts very own community choir! Formed in 2010 as a small (initially) community singing group, growing to a 50 strong choir, performing at events large and small around our local community.
The name relates to Pontefract being the home of Liquorice; being introduced to the town by the monks during the Norman Conquest.
Liquorice is reputed to be good for the vocal chords!​​
JOIN US
We are a genuinely friendly and slightly daft bunch of really nice people singing varied music, entertaining and supporting our community, and we have high standards without taking ourselves terribly seriously! Everyone is welcome and we will try to accommodate your other commitments where possible.
We are mixed voices, mixed ages and mixed abilities so no need to have experience or read music; no scary auditions either!
We aren't a franchise or a business looking to expand an empire, just local people singing for our local community, supporting local causes and having fun.
We aren't trying to be cool or quirky but we do have fun and you will even learn a bit too!
Check out Pontefract's very own community choir for yourself and you will soon have a bunch of new friends, plus singing is good for your well being . None of that cliquey nonsense and it doesn't cost a fortune either so what's not to like?
