Rowena Dobson 
Musical Director
Rowena joined the Liquorice Singers initially as rehearsal pianist, before taking over as Musical Director in 2018.
Whilst studying Performing Arts in college, she recorded a studio album with the college band, played piano in the orchestra, clarinet & saxophone in the big band, danced with a jazz group and played a tour of Florida, USA.
Following this, Rowena joined Wakefield Festival Chorus as a choir soprano, and studied church organ at Wakefield Cathedral.
She went on to join Sing Live UK as a choir soprano and ensemble singer, recording two CDs, performing with David Essex at Belfast Odyssey Arena, the Royal Albert Hall with Sir Cliff Richard & Michael Ball, Sheffield Arena with The Royal British Legion, and a nationwide tour with Jane MacDonald.  
Rowena then sang with Inspiration UK as a choir soprano and ensemble singer, performing at Leeds Town Hall, the Edinburgh Festival, Disneyland Paris and Carnegie Hall, New York.
A stint with a small Leeds community choir as choir soprano, ensemble singer, soloist and choir leader followed, during which time she performed numerous solo & ensemble numbers, conducted rehearsals & a day time concert, sang on a tram in Sheffield and performed at the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony with rock band Toseland. 
Rowena is a former church organist and choir director for two local churches, and has also sung with the Opera North in several community projects, the Leeds College of Music pop choir, the Northern Music Academy Vocal Band and Leeds Musical Theatre Choir. She currently is a deputy church organist and a choir soprano in The Really Big Chorus, performing locally,  at the Royal Albert Hall and in Europe.
Rowena is also performs with Leydon-Smith School of Theatre Dance in local shows as vocalist, comedy performer and dancer. 
Most recently, Rowena successfully auditioned for professional touring group The Motown Gospel Choir (with Rachel Modest), performing soul, gospel and Motown music nationwide. 
Rowena studied voice, piano and clarinet at Cliff Villa Performing Arts & Northern Music Academy, and conducting at Leeds College of Music. 
A keen roller/ice skater and line dancer, Rowena also enjoys piano, diamond painting, reading, cooking and gardening and is teaching herself to play the violin.  She is married with two children and a naughty cat, and works in welfare and crisis support.
